Jerry Gilbert quarterbacked the football team and played basketball at Royal Oak High School before graduating in 1951. He received his undergraduate degree in English from Denison University and has received their distinguished alumni award. He also holds a graduate degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a member of the Virgina State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Jerry Gilbert’s early career included service as the Assistant U. S. Attorny in Washington D. C. and General Counsel for the Department of Commerce.

Gerald Gilbert was on active duty with the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959 and then for more than 30 years he served his country in the Naval Reserve. In 1992 Jerry retired as a two star admiral—the top ranking senior officer—of the the Naval Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps. During his service with JAG, Rear Admiral Gilbert received numerous awards and accomodations. In addition to receiving awards, Jerry has one named for him. Today the US Navy Reserve gives an annual award to those who do the most outstanding job of providing them with legal support. The name of that award is the Rear Admiral Gerald E. Gilbert Cup.

Gerald Gilbert’s business and legal expertise includes international trade, national trade associations and the sale of consumer health care products. He has provided counsel to several national and international organizations including the Tropical Forest Foundation which he founded. He is an independent director of the Mannatech Corporation where he helped restructure its compliance department. In 1992 The Direct Selling Association put Jerry Gilbert into its Hall of Fame. Jerry has been a strong supporter of the legal profession and has served as president of both the Federal Bar Association and the Judge Advocates Association.

Mr. Gilbert served over thirty years with the international law firm of Hogan and Hartson and was the founder of their international trade practice group. His service included several terms on their executive committee and ten years as the managing partner of their northern Virginia office. Under his leadership the office qudrupled in size to nearly 60 lawyers and established itself as a premier law firm known for its quality and diversity of practice.
